
Reparations in South Africa: What still needs to be done?
Reparations are necessary not just from a justice perspective, but also have an important psycho-social element, which cannot be ignored; or if ignored, may imperil the whole reconciliation project. Acknowledgement, accountability and redress are necessary, but not sufficient. If the trauma that resulted from the violations is not acknowledged, authentic reconciliation and lasting peace are imperiled.
