Invitation to Participate in IJR Southern Africa Regional Women Peace and Security Lab

The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) is a pan African organization with a vision to build Fair, democratic, inclusive and peaceful societies in Africa. The IJR, with support from the Embassy of Ireland in South Africa, is inviting applications to attend a Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Peace Lab. These dynamic engagements aim to strengthen the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda in the region by creating a deeper understanding of WPS, promoting leadership on WPS, and developing innovative solutions to current peace and security challenges.

Objectives

The Peace Lab is a platform designed to:

  • Enhance a shared understanding of WPS
  • Provide a critical analysis of key peace and security challenges in Africa
  • Co-create innovative practices to address peace and security challenges
  • Develop a new cohort of feminist leaders on WPS in Southern Africa
  • Enhance collaboration and the WPS Regional Network

 Key Details

  • Format: 2 and ½ day intensive workshop
  • Participants: Limited to 20 emerging women leaders on WPS from Southern Africa
  • Place: Gauteng South Africa
  • Dates: February 2025
  • Logistics: IJR will cover the flight and accommodation costs related to participation for candidates from outside of the Gauteng area

Eligibility

We invite applications from:

  • Emerging women leaders committed to promoting women, peace and security
  • Women between the ages 25 – 50 years old
  • Representatives of civil society, academia, and government with a passion for innovation in peace processes
  • Valid passport
  • Able to communicate in English
