De Doorns: A Photographic Narrative
DORINGBAAI, CLANWILLIAM and VILLIERSDORP SELECTED COMMUNITY HISTORIES
Post-apartheid South Africa is facing many challenges, one of which relates directly to the processes of reconciliation and social cohesion, namely, the democratisation of local town histories. The answer to the question, “what is the history of an area/town/regions” cannot be answered by merely consulting existing sources. In order to provide a more comprehensive response to the question, it is necessary to identify and explore new sources and those should be made accessible. One of those sources, is the life experiences of people and their eye-witness accounts.
The documentation of the life experiences of selected senior citizens of Doringbaai, Clanwilliam and Viliersdorp, is part of the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation’s (IJR) Building and Inclusive Society (BIS) 2012 – 2016 program.
