Mandela Day: Screening of Truth Be Told: Ntombi Kubheka, Bones of Memory
Truth be told is a six-part documentary series that puts South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) process under the microscope. Very few of the several hundred cases that the TRC recommended for prosecution or investigation more than 20 years ago have been pursued by the National Prosecuting Authority.
Mandela Day at IJR will be commemorated with the screening of ‘Ntombikayise Kubheka – The Bones of Memory.’ Ntombi, an anti-apartheid activist and senior ANC member, was kidnapped, tortured, and killed by the South African Police in 1987. Her family only learned of her burial site 10 years later. Her daughter Thuli, now 40, struggles with her legacy and life challenges. An inquest was opened in 2022.
