SUMMARY:Film Screening – The Quiet Heroes of Sudan
DESCRIPTION:The screening of the film “The Quiet Heroes of Sudan” on Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) \nAs the conflict deepens, Sudan faces unprecedented displacement, hunger, and the collapse of basic services. International humanitarian organizations face serious challenges of access and resources, hampering their ability to adequately address needs. In this context, volunteer-based emergency response rooms provide a vital source of relief, reaching populations that larger organizations are unable to. Often made up of women and youth volunteers, ERRs activities include soup kitchens, evacuation networks, basic health services, and psychosocial support. In the process, volunteers face incredible risks to their lives and families—including risk of reprisals for the work they do. Produced by Ayin Network, this film provides a rare, first-hand account of how communities are organizing to fill the gaps left by dwindling international funding and restricted humanitarian access. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion bringing together local volunteers from Sudan, policymakers, donors, and humanitarian leaders to discuss concrete steps to scale up support for Sudan’s local responders and strengthen their protection. We look forward to your participation in the screening and discussion.\n
