IJR Internship: Peacebuilding Interventions Programme

The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) Peacebuilding Interventions (PBI) Programme invites applications for internship to take up employment from March to December 2024 from candidates who are post-graduates, and have a passion to promote fair, democratic and inclusive societies in Africa. Candidates will be seeking to develop their peacebuilding, transitional justice, research and analysis skills in a dynamic South African non-profit organization, that works in several countries across Africa.

Required Skills:

· Demonstrated competence in research and analysis;

· Excellent communication skills;

· Ability to work with a computer – Word, Excel and PowerPoint;

· The ability to work independently with attention to detail;

· Competency in English is necessary and proficiency in another language is an advantage;

· Ability to write, proof-read, edit articles, opinion editorials.

Responsibilities:

· Conducting research and analyses of conflict and peacebuilding in Africa;

· Drafting and writing concept notes;

· Participating in the planning and organisation of PBI events such as workshops, seminars, dialogues;

· Attending designated meetings of the PBI program and contributing towards its work.

Academic requirements:

Applicants should be in possession of, or in the process of completing a Masters Degree in Conflict and Peace Studies, Political Studies, Transitional Justice, Development Studies, Human Rights, Gender & Peacebuilding, or a related social science discipline.

Conditions of appointment:

Applicants will be African citizens from across the continent, but should be based in Cape Town, South Africa. Applicants should at the time of application be in possession of documentation that allow them to work in South Africa for the duration of the internship.
