Members of the media are invited to join the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) for the annual
2021 Reconciliation Award ceremony to be held at IJR Offices (105 Hatfield Street, Gardens Cape Town)
on Thursday, 25 November 2021 from 17h30 till 20h00.

The 2021 Reconciliation Award will be awarded to the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism. The
Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism is an independent media organisation that specialises in narrative
and solutions journalism focusing on health and social justice issues across Africa. The centre’s stories are
distributed through News24, the Daily Maverick and the Mail & Guardian and reach policymakers,
academics, activists and political leaders, often resulting in shifts in policy, setting national
agendas and defining conversations. Trained in evidence-based journalism, their reporters and editors
use peer-reviewed journal studies and reliable statistics to support the narratives in our stories. Bhekisisa
also hosts media trainings for journalists and civil society, as well as public discussion forums on health
issues, that bring together policymakers and specialist audiences. One of Bhekisisa’s objectives is to
create a new generation of health journalists in South Africa.

Dr Ric Amansure will confer the 2021 Reconciliation Award to Bhekisisa. The award ceremony will be in
