IJR TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE IN AFRICA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME
The IJR has been hosting fellows from countries in political transition since 2000. The programme has been designed to attract and bring together scholars and practitioners in the field of transitional justice to compare, reflect and write on the activities they may have been and hope to be engaged in, in their respective countries. Each programme now focuses on a specific country within the ambit of the Institute's Africa-based programme, namely Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Through dialogues and discussion sessions led by IJR staff and external experts, the 5-week residential programme aims to prepare participants for challenges specific to democratic transitions through exposure to various transitional justice tools. A collaborative environment fosters information exchange and dialogue among participants, IJR staff and IJR partners.
The programme is aimed at senior African professionals working in a field closely related to transitional justice and who are in positions to influence policy and practice. Its' purpose is to enhance participants' skills and knowledge to make significant contributions to initiatives in their respective countries. Accordingly, the programme attempts to cover the central literature, themes, and mechanisms in the field of transitional justice and supplements academic materials with practical case studies based on IJR in-country experience.
Details of the annual fellowship are posted on this site as soon as they become available. For more information on the programme, please contact the Programme Coordinator Ms Friederike Bubenzer.
