Monitors

The South African reconciliation process has been held up as representing an example of transitional justice and reconciliation. Different kinds of conflict, however, necessitate different kinds of transition and different strategies for reconciliation.

In this context, the Institute has sought to develop critical dialogue with civil society in several regions in transition. The engagement has been grounded in rigorous research as well as regular monitoring of transitional developments. The Transition Monitors therefore represent research baskets for the Institute’s particular engagements, as well as a platform for local voices in transition. The Transition Monitors are at various stages of completion. The completed Zimbabwe Monitor represents a rich source of information, with the News Page being updated on an almost daily basis.
