The dialogue will focus on women’s representation and participation in decision-making and conflict management structures and processes, delving into its impact on women’s security and the continent’s peacefulness. It aims to move beyond mere quantitative analysis to explore how women can meaningfully influence a new global discourse on peace and security, necessitating reforms in structures, policies, and practices to ensure peace and security for all, particularly women. It will examine some of the root causes of conflict and insecurity on the continent. The Women Peace and Security Agenda, as defined by UNSCR 1325, is approaching a significant milestone in its implementation journey. As we move closer to commemorating a quarter century of this landmark resolution in 2025, it is crucial to engage in a comprehensive critical reflection that can shape future thought leadership in this realm.
The dialogue is convened by International IDEA, Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, and Women in Political Participation, with support from the Government of Sweden and the Embassy of Ireland in South Africa.
