PRESS RELEASE AND MEDIA INVITE

Book Launch: IJR to launch collection of poems, short stories and non-fictional pieces at the Youth Identity Conference in Vryburg on 27 September 2019

The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) hereby invites members of the media and the public to join us for a week-long Youth Conference in Vryburg, North West. The conference will run through from the 24th – 27th of September 2019 at Lodge 41 on Market Street in Vryburg. The event will furthermore launch a publication tilted, Youth Speaks of a collection of poems, short stories and non-fictional pieces written by our participants and will be available to those who attend the event. The writings speak to issues of human dignity, identity, reconciliation, (in)justice and belonging through the lense of these young people.

In an attempt to create a space for a conversation, joining this year’s Youth Identity conference event will be members of the academia, youth activist and members of civil society organisation to celebrate young people and their contributions to our democracy, and to engage with struggles that specifically affect and shape young people in South Africa today.

The event hosted by IJR’s Youth Identity project (YIP) is a culmination of two years’ dialoguing, relationship building, and skills capacitation between the YIP and the young people from Vryburg and Free State who participated in earlier processes. The intention for this meeting is to explore ways in which young people who were born after Apartheid can work towards the re-building and restoration of their personal and collective human dignity. This being done by creating spaces and platforms aimed at reimagining what a dignified life can and should look like.

The Youth Voice, very much needed in the current society.
I personally welcome and encourage young people to do it for themselves.
My failures helps me to let young people makes their own mistakes and learn from it, but even better learn from others mistakes.

I know I don’t do the best job with my own boys, they five, but I love them and don’t want to spoil them.

This must be the best conference ever, enjoy ever moment!
