From 23-27 September, IJR’s Research and Policy HOD, Jan Hofmeyr will be in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to provide ongoing assistance to GIZ’s “Strengthening Reconciliation Processes in Sri Lanka Project” in the development of a measurement instrument for reconciliation in that country.

On the 29th of October, IJR’s Jan Hofmeyr will be participating in a panel discussion on “FAULT LINES IN SOUTH AFRICAN SOCIETY AND THEIR IMPACT ON PHILANTHROPY” at the Social Cohesion Philanthropy Symposium in Stellenbosch.

The Gender Indaba – 15-17 October

The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation is hosting an Indaba on the nexus between gender justice and reconciliation and intersectional approaches to the creation of gender just communities in Cape Town.The Indaba brings together academics, activists and policy-makers with a view to engage various forms of knowledge centred on the lives, struggles and celebrations of women across the range of social, political, economic, racial and cultural divides.

The Ashley Kriel Memorial Lecture – 17 October

In commemoration of the contribution that the youth across South Africa played in the struggle against oppression, exploitation and exclusion on the basis of race, gender and class, the IJR hosts the annual Ashley Kriel Memorial Lecture as a platform to honour past youth leadership, debate challenges facing youth today and celebrate youth achievements. The Lecture encourages dialogue on issues that are often difficult in efforts to address the complex challenges facing us today.

Production of Gender Podcast series

This year the IJR’s GJR project will use Podcasts to elevate citizen’s voices in telling their gender stories and will pull in experts to contextualize and contribute insights on gender dynamics in South Africa and abroad. These will be shared on all social media platforms to foster meaningful conversations on topics that personal and often difficult.

On the 10th of September 2019 will be co-hosting a conference with the Democracy Development Project (DDP) looking at Social Cohesion .

In September the Social Change Model team will be travelling to Vrybrurg where IJR ambassadors will be showcasing their art work they have produced relating to justice and reconciliation.
