MEDIA RELEASE

-2016 Transformation Audit- Opportunity for Change: The Private Sector’s Role in Inclusive Development

The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) hereby invites members of the media to join us for the media launch of the latest annual edition of the Transformation Audit. This year’s edition brings together insights from leading thinkers and professionals to evaluate the role of the private sector in bringing about social change and fostering an inclusive economy.

The report serves as a review of recent developments in the field, highlighting global and continental trends on how business can bring about more sustainable societies, accompanied by an in-depth analysis of the South African case. The authors underscore the need for two key social actors – business and the government – to pool their collective resources and forge a new consensus for long-term social and economic change. This, in all likelihood, will require a strengthening of mutual trust, as well as the setting aside of vested interests that impede the alignment of resources in society. In short, the report highlights that in the South Africa of today, the business of business cannot only be business.

The main findings of this year’s publication will be presented by the editors: Dr. Mzukisi Qobo (Associate Professor and Deputy Director, NRF Chair: African Diplomacy and Foreign Policy, University of Johannesburg) and Mr Jan Hofmeyr (Program Manager of the Research and Policy unit, IJR).
